Engineering Ideas and Techniques
As the Avionics lead on the Active Controls team, I was responsible for organizing meetings, delegating work, and integrating new members into the team. A large part of being a student-run organization is the constant need for education and a transfer of knowledge.
I have done my best to provide new and existing members with interesting and useful learning sessions. These include lessons taught during meetings covering basic electrical concepts in addition to more complex topics that are more specific to the challenges the team faces.
As an alternative to lessons I have also provided workshops as an opportunity for the Avionics team to learn more through demos and hands-on experience. These workshops have primarily been ran by myself, however I have encouraged and successfully convinced my peers to run workshops related to their areas of expertise.
Soldering Workshop
In this workshop I brought a group of students to the Electrical Engineering Lab and taught basic concepts such as wire stripping, soldering, and connector crimping.
PCB Design Workshop
During winter break I held a virtual workshop over zoom. During the three hour call I covered as much as I could about the basics of electrical concepts and schematic design. We touched on topics such as how to read a datasheet and how to identify tools in an EDA software.
PCB Design Workshop V2
During this workshop I continued where I left off with the previous workshop and walked my peers through the design philosophy and process for creating the IMU breakout board that I had previously designed. The workshop allowed me to teach concepts such as trace layout, via use, and component placement.
