Metal Casting

I've always been a large proponent of reusing as much as possible. I like to save whatever material I can. Anything that could be used to build something new is useful in my mind. That's why I recycle cut zip-ties until they become too short to use.

During a slight soda addiction, I realized I was generating plenty of empty soda cans that could be reshaped into raw aluminum stock for my projects. After doing extensive research online, I scrapped together the bare necessities for casting my own aluminum ingots.

Using the fire pit in my backyard and an entire day's worth of embers, I was able to melt down my collection of cans in a graphite crucible from Amazon. Using the tongs meant for lifting firewood I was able to pour the aluminum into various cooking trays and an old coffee can.
